Mele Kai overlooks the sunny Southern Coastline of Kauai. This special property is situated in one of the rare spots on Kauai Island where you are able to view the sunrise and the sunset in Poipu. Enjoy the warm breeze, the spectacular 180 degree ocean vistas with sea turtles, whales, dolphins, seals, and much, much more. There is currently a home being built across the street (please see photos).
Beautifully designed and decorated, Mele Kai is a two level, Kauai vacation home. Relax in the spaciousness of 3 bedrooms + den and 2.5 baths. Barefoot around on bamboo wood floors. Put your inner chef to work in the fully stocked cooks kitchen. Chill out with air conditioning and cable TV. If you must stay connected to the rest of your life, there is high speed WIFI and complimentary telephone service to the mainland and 39 countries. Mele Kai features the finest vacation amenities available.
The upper level has stunning ocean views of Mahaulepu and Shipwrecks Beach from the living room, the lanai sunroom, and the primary bedroom. The primary suite, along with the breath taking view of the blue Pacific and the south shore coastline, has access to a private lanai. Sliding shoji doors separate the master bedroom from the living area. There is a luxurious black granite bathroom with double shower and double sinks. The upstairs living room area offers an open floor plan, with an attached cooks kitchen, and Kitchen Aid grill on the adjacent lanai. Watch the waves as you relax or dine at home. There is also an upstairs guest bathroom.
The entry level of the home enjoys 2 bedrooms both with ocean views and access to a house wide hardwood lanai with Adirondack furniture for lounging. Also conveniently located on this level is the "meditation room" with a full size sofa sleeper, bathroom and laundry room.
Sleeping accommodations: Queen bed in all bedrooms. Full size futon sleeper in the 4th bedroom/"meditation room".
Mele Kai is steps away from world famous Brennecke Beach and Poipu Beach Park (voted one of the best beaches by Travel America) to the west and a short walk to Shipwreck Beach at the Hyatt Regency to the east. Enjoy the nearby shops and award winning restaurants. The dining in Poipu is the best on the entire island.
Find out why Kauai is nicknamed “the Garden Isle”. Visit these garden spots: the Spouting Horn, the National Tropical Botanical Gardens Allerton Estate and McBryde Gardens, and the Kadavul Hindu Temple. All are a short drive away.
If you prefer more active adventures in paradise here are some suggestions: play golf at the Poipu Bay Golf Course (home of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf), surf at Poipu Beach, charter a fishing or sail boat, tour Waimea Canyon (the Grand Canyon of the Pacific), drop into the art galleries of Hanapepe for the Friday night art walk, tour the Kauai chocolate farms, visit the coffee plantation, hike the Na Pali coast, zipline Koloa, tube down the plantation canals, horseback riding on the beach, tour the island by helicopter. You can design the perfect vacation as the opportunities in Poipu are limitless.
After a day of exploring, you will have worked up an appetite. The local farmers markets will offer free samples of some of the most exotic fruits and vegetables you have ever tried, including breadfruit, soursop, low acid pineapples, coconuts, lychee, rambutan, jackfruit, etc. Your taste buds will come alive in Poipu!

We had an absolutely perfect stay at Mele Kai! Such a spacious lovely home with gorgeous views. Quick response from the staff for any questions and a beautiful walking path very close by. One thing to be aware of if traveling with kids, the lower bedrooms are not overly sound proof with the slatted doors but we made it work! Would absolutely stay again.

Had a great stay here with my family! The home comfortably supported six adults sharing three total bedrooms. It was clean, quiet, and well-stocked. The AC worked well, and the kitchen was very comfortable for group cooking. The best part: location. Short walk to Poipu and Shipwreck beaches — two of our favorite in the area. Excellent communication from the hosts. Would gladly stay again. Thanks for the stay!

Enjoyed our stay Mele Kai for a hiking trip. House is in a beautiful neighborhood a block from ocean on hill so have views of the ocean. Layout has 2 BR’s and laundry on 1st floor and master BR, living room, kitchen, sun room, 2 bath rooms on 2nd floor with porches on both floors and BBQ grill. 1st floor has garage with beach stuff to use. Parking is a challenge if more than one car due to steep short driveway. Poipu beach is a short drive away where nightly Green sea turtles arrive and Monk seals can be seen. Waimea canyon and Na Pali coast are a must see. Communications with host excellent. House was perfect for our visit.

With 7 guests, we appreciated 2.5 bathrooms and the large washer/dryer. The laundry room had a drying rack, extra beach towels and ironing board. Each closet was well organized providing bins and shelves to comfortably unpack your things. The kitchen had everything we needed and the bbq on the deck worked well. We loved watching the sunrise each morning. The sunset was best viewed at Poipu Beach just a few minutes drive away. We would definitely stay here again.

This is a beautiful home with the most spectacular 180degree views! Loved our stay here. The only concern for us (with our little one) was the hard floor stairs (the baby gate did not fit to block them). There are also two lanai's upstairs with railings that can be climbed by a little one. This was a really fantastic house otherwise.

The house is beautiful, in a great location. We could walk to the beach, see the turtles, snorkel. House is extremely well equipped, a great kitchen. Our only disappointment was that no coffee or tea was there. The upstairs bedroom is not completely closed off at the ceiling so the early risers stayed in that one. All in all, a great place to stay.

This a beautiful home within walking to a beach with fabulous turtles! Great kitchen, just missing the coffee and tea we usually find in rentals. The property managers are excellent providing good information and easy to reach. Good location for exploring the island. We went east one day and west another. I highly recommend staying here.

Our family of 6 adults enjoyed our stay for 10 nights. The property was excellently situated on the island and very close to the ocean, so the view from the lanai’s was wonderful., enjoyed our morning coffee there. The property felt very homey, loved the movie posters. The kitchen was well stocked so we could cook breakfasts. The 3 bathrooms and 4 bedrooms were well situated and came in handy with our group of 6. The unit was very clean. The beach chairs, umbrella, towels and cooler were an added bonus. Would absolutely rent this place again.

Mele Kai is perfectly situated with a view of the ocean and sunrise. The walk to Poipu main beaches is a lovely 10 minute walk west. Across the street is a wonderful cliff walk east to the Grand Hyatt. The construction was minimal and always done by 5 pm so it never bothered us as we were off exploring the island each day.

A beautifully designed, well furnished, and comfortable home. My husband and I rented the house to serve as a gathering place for our large family, who were housed in nearby condos. It served the purpose wonderfully, and the downstairs bedrooms provided flexibility for occasional overnight guests. A grand view and a good high-bank beach walk across the street. The managing company was very responsive to any issues.

Mele Kai was the perfect house for our adult family of 6. We took turns cooking breakfasts and dinners from the well stocked kitchen. We watched whale spouts, walked to Poipu and Shipwreck beaches, caves, the Kauai fruit stand, and Brenneke's. We were at a perfect distance for exploring the west side of the island. Thanks for the opportunity to celebrate the holiday season after 2 years of pandemic- Mele Kai is special.

We were three couples and a single person all totally enjoying our stay at the house. It was very easy to prepare and have meals at the house and for those of us who wanted to relax, the views were very conducive. Being able to walk to the Hyatt Regency for dinner at Tide Pools was a bonus. I whole heartedly recommend this house.

This is a lovely house that made our vacation just perfect! The beautiful ocean view was the perfect way to start each day and to enjoy throughout the day. The house was very clean, well-furnished, and in a great location. As an experienced cook, I especially appreciated the well-stocked kitchen, especially high-quality sharp knives! Traveled with a group of 5 friends. The house was located in a great location. When we arrived the house was well stocked with towels and toiletries. We only cooked one night but the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans of all sizes. The house itself was beautifully laid out with more privacy in the lower bedrooms than the one on the top level. Overall, I’d highly recommend this house for its location and views.

It was dreaming days just as or much more than my expectation. I have been to this area before and knew the place very well. From that point, the location and circumstances were perfectly match my expectation. As I have an opportunity to write about the house, let me point out some of the problem I faced, besides a lot of excellent things.
One, the second floor shower room, drainage is bad. I tried to fix it using suction cup but it was not enough to correct the situation. I left the memo on the shower room window. Two, BBQ grill was not perfect. Gas was empty and it was solved by the Garden island staff over the phone. The grill was not maintained clean. I also left the memo on the grill. Three, it is the problem of my side. TV audio mechanism is so difficult and I was not able to watch TV and to listen to the music. As I love music, as same as the owner, it was regret of me not to handle that music machine. Everything else was no problem and we really enjoy the week at Mele Kai and Poipu. Thank you very much. Please correct a few things that I point out above so that Mele Kai brings more happiness to people stay there! Mahalo

The Male Kai home at Poipu was a terrific layout and very nice quality throughout. Beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the decks off master and front office/den. What a wonderful house. The location is perfect and the house is so comfortable with great breezes and views abound. The coastal walk across the street was a favorite early morning as well as evening moving meditation. They have thought of everything to accommodate the whole family. My husband and I and our two adult children stayed at Mele Kai for six nights and it was our home away from home. The property is beautiful, the pictures can't even do it justice. The views are stunning! The two decks were wonderful, we spotted whales from them every day of our stay. The kitchen is well-stocked and we were thankful to have beach chairs, sand toys, boogie boards and a beach umbrella (slightly broken) to use. It is so close to the ocean-only a road and a vacant lot separate it, so no obstruction to the views! We didn't get to see many sunrises/sets because of stormy, windy weather, but it would've been beautiful had the weather cooperated. This is an excellent location in Poipu and we would love to stay here again. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing vacation!
Suggestions to make Mele Kai perfect: replace upstairs blinds, replace beach umbrella, king-size bed for the master bedroom, non-slatted doors for privacy in the bedrooms and baths, and a large non-stick pan for the kitchen.

This was our first visit to Kauai and we knew nothing about the island. We were extremely happy with Mele Kai. This is a very comfortable home located in the perfect spot, with beautiful views and easy access to both the Poipu and Shipwreck beaches, along with Hyatt, Mariott and Sheraton properties. We chose Poipu based on less winter rainfall versus northern options, but we would come back here regardless. The Mele Kai property is very well maintained, great kitchen and dining area with excellent amenities. Owner and property manager very attentive to needs as well. All in all, feel like we lucked out finding this place!

We had a delightful stay in this lovely home. Easy walking distance to beaches and short drives to local stores and tourist attractions. The home advertises that it sleeps 8 but if you are all adults as we were, 6 is the maximum as two of the rooms had smaller beds not really suitable for couples. However, that aside, the space is inviting, very comfortable, with good views to the ocean. Highly recommended. I would have no hesitation returning.

The home was beautiful,spacious with a spectacular ocean view in a quiet neighborhood. We had every-thing we needed to be comfortable away from home.
We were a pretty quiet group and didn't have an issue but privacy might be a concern for the guest staying upstairs in the main bedroom next to the living room & kitchen. The wall doesn't go to the ceiling & the doors are slated. As such, light & noise could potentially be a problem. Actually all of the doors in the house are slated and takes away from privacy.
Aside from the above, I would totally rent the house again with the same group. I think twice with a different group because of the potential light & noise & privacy concern.

Our family had an amazing time at Mele Kai. The home is spacious, spotless, and beautifully furnished and decorated. There are views of the ocean from most rooms in the home, and you are able to see amazing sunrises. The kitchen is well stocked with everything we needed. There is a beautiful walking path just steps from the house where you can take a walk to Shipwreck's beach, or go in the other direction for a short walk to Brenneke's beach and Poipu beach park. We truly could not have been happier with our stay, this is a lovely and well cared for home.

AWESOME! AWESOME! We had 5 adults & two boys under 5. The place was so nice & spacious & location was perfect. It was closer to the beach than we had thought. Their were beach chairs (some were broken), coolers, sand buckets & so much more that was there for our personal use. The only negative was the lack of privacy the thin walls & open doors created. I was upstairs with my husband & we had zero privacy. This was my 40th birthday trip & I loved it. Off the deck we saw whales EVERY day, a walk away we saw Turtles & large snails the boys thought were cool. Amazing stay! Thanks :)

The location and views of this house are fantastic and hard to match. One problem we had with the home was the design of the open ceiling and the louver doors. Though I understand the purpose of the design, it offered absolutely no privacy in the bathrooms or bedrooms. We had early risers in our group and when they turned a light on in the kitchen or living room, because of the open ceiling, it was as though they turned a light on in the master bedroom. This can be a huge issue unless everyone is on the same sleep schedule.
My biggest issue I had with the home though was in the smaller details where they seemed to cheap out on. For about $250 they could purchase quality beach chairs and beach towels at COSTCO yet the ones they have were of poor quality and in very poor condition.
Finally, I want to say that I was pleased that Garden Island Properties was able to give us a late checkout for a fee. I was disappointed however when I asked a week early if we could drop off our refrigerator and freezer items (we were moving from another home) one hour before check in and they said no.

We woke every morning to a beautiful sunrise over the ocean and then went out onto the quiet lanai, off the bedroom, to drink our coffee. This was how we started every day of our week's stay at this lovely house.
The house had plenty of room for 5 adults and a baby, although we had to improvise as there are no facilities specifically made for young ones.
The house is in a quite housing area but looks out over the sea. While it is not practical to walk to the beach with all the necessary beach equipment for a family of 6, it is an easy 2-3 minute drive to Poipu beach where there is ample parking.
We have no hesitation in recommending this house and will certainly rent it again when we return to Kauai.
Finally, the management company was the best we have ever dealt with when renting vacation properties. They kept us informed at every step in the process and sent us lots of information before our vacation even began. Well done Garden Island Properties!

This house is the perfect rental spot for a group! We had three couples stay here for a week, and we had such a wonderful time cooking big breakfasts and dinners in the clean and well-stocked kitchen and dancing around the big living room to the Sonos system. All three beds look out onto the ocean and you are walking distance to the Hyatt and Turtle hike as well as to the local public beach (although if you are bringing more than just a backpack to the beach, I would recommend driving.) It would be a great house to host a family as well. It is a short drive to the local fish market (which is right next to La Spetzia - our favorite resturant!) We will absolutely look to see if it is available again next time we are in Kauai!

We stayed here for 5 nights. We loved it. The location for our trip was great. We drove up each side of the island to the beaches and up on Na Pali coast and ridge walk. Everything was fantastic. The house is set up very nice with a great view out over the water. Great lanai

We were more than satisfied with the house. It was much bigger than expected and had everything needed. It was very clean and well-maintained. The location by the sea was very impressive. We enjoyed the view from the house every minute. We will most certainly recommend this house to friends.

This house had an awesome unobstructed view of the ocean and we were able to watch a beautiful sunrise and breeching whales every morning! The upper floor was very spacious and had a very well stocked kitchen. The outdoor grill worked very well and we used it almost every evening to cook many types of the excellent fresh fish (Ono, Opah, Monchong, Uku & Mahi Mahi).
There were 7 of us and the home had excellent hot water, beds, amenities and quiet. The location was perfect.
The Apple TV and Sonos sound system were a bonus. The rental app was excellent for communicating with the property management people who responded immediately to our one request.

Stayed for a week in December and fell in love with the home. 170 degree views of ocean from the master bedroom was incredible. Location is quiet, private, and peaceful. Very close to poipu beach for snorkeling and a few shops in the area. If you are interested in the south part of Kauai, this place is fantastic. Will stay north shore on next visit to be closer to some better beaches and Napali, I just wish I could bring this place with me!

A turn key spacious house that feels just like home with a Hawaiian twist. We had a great vacation in Kauai and Mele Kai Home completed that experience for us. We had 5 people and if we come back with 5 or more I would definitely book Mele Kai again. Mehalo!

We loved our week at Mele Kai. Kitchen is well equipped. Beds are comfortable.The property has been well maintained and very clean. Location is great for walks to Poipu beach. Poipu is a quieter part of the island. It doesn't have the lushness of Princeville nor the traffic. There are tons or restaurants within a 5 minute drive. This house does not have the beach equipment that some houses advertise. There are beach chairs and coolers and an umbrella. There was one child size set of dive mask and flipper.

This house fit the bill. It was exactly as described, it was clean and well kept, and the location was great. It was close to beaches, hotels, grocery stores, and shopping/eating. It was great for a party 6 plus 2 chidlren. The views of the sunrise from the upstairs bed were overwhelmingly amazing. One of the kid friendly beaches is within walking distance, which is a beach that is frequented by turtles and monk seals. The management for the hotel was polite and courteous. They addressed any and all questions. I would recommend this house to anyone, which I already have to several family members. Great times and great fun.

Fit all our needs. Nicely cared for and in great condition. We appreciated the small amenities--like laundry detergent--that were included. Beautiful view and an easy walk to the beach, although you likely will want to drive if you are carrying beach gear.

The house was fabulous. The views were great. AC was a nice perk to take the edge off after being out all day, but the open floor plan allowed the breeze to blow through so much that being hot was not an issue.
Great BBQ!.
Loved the electronic touch with the apple tv and the SONOS. I am a music man and was pleased with the ambience provided with the Sonos audio system (def download the app and use it).

Our family had a wonderful experience on Kauai, in part due to Mele Kai. It was a very nice, spacious house, well appointed, good linens, beach chairs, walking distance to the beach, easy to get to, and nice neighbors. The sleeping possibilities were maybe a bit overstated...our family of five filled up the sleeping quarters (with one child sleeping on a non-foldout couch). No complaints...the bedrooms were greeted with a beautiful sunrise over the Pacific each morning, and you could see the sunset from the deck. The management company was very nice, and helpful. A wonderful oasis.
